Bekah and Steve's industrial engagement photos at Carrie Blast Furnace are some of my favorites because I got to shoot at a unique location, capturing the urban, moody, and textural vibe of the abandoned furnace.

It’s always awesome when people you’ve worked with recommend you to someone else. In this case, I did engagement photos for Steve’s brother. Steve’s brother liked them so much, he recommended me to Steve, and I’m happy to report shooting with Bekah and Steve was just as awesome and rewarding.

The Location

Carrie Blast Furnace is a historical site in Pittsburgh that’s now used for a variety of public events, including allowing couples to take industrial engagement photos. Part of the allure of the Carrie Blast Furnace is it’s still in its original, dark, rusty state. Both the inside and outside have a kind of ruined, abandoned beauty about them. The inside was packed with old, rundown machinery, while the outside saw fresh growth from plant life.

You may wonder why Bekah and Steve chose to shoot their industrial engagement photos here. Aside from a truly unique spot, Bekah works in large machine manufacturing, so it was special to her to have these images taken in a historical site that also ties to her current job. I’m glad she chose that location because the juxtaposition between the romantic feel between Steve and her and the rusty, urban feel of the setting was incredible. The killer sunset helped too.

Industrial Engagement Photos - Light and Dark, Rusty, Abandoned

For the industrial engagement photos of Bekah and Steve, I carefully read the light in the space. There were some really dark areas of the setting, but with my eye for understanding lighting, the photos turned out amazing!

By understanding lighting, we were able to take advantage of that sunset I mentioned earlier, plus all the deep shadows and contrasts their industrial engagement photos offered. What was really cool was how much Bekah and Steve stood out there. In some photoshoots, it can be difficult to make the couple stand out, but the rusting machinery and darker environments helped out with this.

Bekah and Steve were great to work with too. They were so relaxed, and we all had a lot of fun exploring different areas to find spots that worked and those that didn’t. Sometimes, you just have to experiment until you get it right.

Overall, I’m thrilled with how Bekah and Steve’s industrial engagement photos turned out, and I know they are too.

Capturing What Matters

Pictures capture special moments in time. They capture the decay of an abandoned furnace, and they capture the love of a committed couple. They capture the everyday and the unique. For me, it doesn’t matter what you’re looking for, I’m ready to take on the challenge.

So, if you’re looking for usual or unusual locations for your engagement shoot or a wedding ceremony, just let me know. I’m happy to answer any questions you have, and I’m absolutely ready to start working with you on the photos for your special day. I can’t wait to hear from you!
